Shakespeare’s comedies are often full of plot twists and cases of mistaken identity, but nevertheless manage to convey the sense that love will eventually conquer all. The Merchant of Venice is such a play, and despite its reputation as a problem play (i.e., one which doesn’t comfortably fit under its genre designation), determining how the various actions adhere to the different stages of plot structure can reveal much about the underlying themes of the play.

• Describe the key elements of the selected stage with regard to The Merchant of Venice. You should identify which acts and scenes are involved with this stage. Also identify the major characters involved and any major plot development.

• Looking within this stage of plot structure, select a specific range of lines encompassing either a soliloquy, monologue, or dialogue between two characters.

• Begin by identifying the lines as well as the character(s) involved.

• Then, analyze how these lines work to advance this stage of the plot.
• Your initial post should be at least 200 words in length, excluding any quotes from the play you may use. However, please be sure to support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references according to APA style. 
• Respond to at least two of your classmatesposts by Day 7.
•  Respond to classmates who focused on different stages of plot structure than you did. In each response, reference your initial post and discuss how your selected stage of plot structure interacts with the stage chosen by your classmate in the play as a whole. Each response should be at least 125 words in length.
