To start, students will revisit the concept of social theories in order to understand the purpose and value of social theories in society. Please read Chapter 3 - Social Theories listed at the following link. Read the social theory entry in the New World Encyclopedia at the following link, and also read the introductory essay for Section One of your text, Social Theory Re-Wired.

Answer the following:

·  Explain how social theories are useful to the following groups: researchers, practitioners, and individuals in society.

·  As presented in the introductory essay, explain the concept of social order and Emile Durkheim’s concept of social solidarity.
