Prepare: Read Chapter 3 in Writing for the Mass Media. The author of our textbook states that, Style imposes a discipline in writing that should run through all the activities of a communicator. It implies that the communicator is precise not only with writing but also with facts and with thought. Consistent style is the hallmark of a professional.
Reflect: Why do you think there is such a strong emphasis on consistency in writing for the mass media? What advantages and disadvantages does using a stylebook like the AP stylebook create for journalists? What advantages and/or disadvantages does it create for readers?
Write: Write a 250- to 300-word response that reflects upon the importance of consistency and the AP Stylebook in journalistic writing. Explain your view giving examples from a recent news article you located from the Associated Press. In your initial post, you must include at least one in-text citation from the reading material and an additional in-text citation from a scholarly source that you locate. At the end of your post, include your name and a full reference for all sources cited in the body of your post. All references must adhere to APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
