WEEK 5 DISCUSSION 1/DQ 1 HISTORY AND GLOBALIZATION ((LATEST))
Week 5 Discussion 1/dq 1 History and Globalization ((latest))
This week, you are required to answer only one of the following discussion post questions. You should indicate if you chose Option A or Option B in your original post. You are required to respond to at least one peer who chose a different option. For instance, if you chose Option A, you will need to respond to at least one peer who chose Option B.
Option A: History: Understanding Power and Decision Making. In chapter 6 of our textbook, historian Charles Beard asserted that the founding fathers who wrote the Constitution, in many ways, wrote to protect their own elite status and economic wealth (pp. 144-145). The text also maintains that despite changing sources of power, the constitution and the National Government it established reflected the beliefs, values, and interests of the people of powerthe elite and that, furthermore, the changing elite has continued to exert influence in the government since the nations founding (p. 141). And, in the contemporary United States, we face a gap between the rich and the poor, as well as those suffering from institutionalized racism and gender inequality. Given these factors, respond to the following questions:
·  Do you agree or disagree with the authors arguments? And why?
·  Do you believe that the structure of power laid out by the founding fathers contributed to the continuation of institutional racism and gender inequality in this country, as well as increasing the gap between the rich and poor? Why or why not?
Your initial post must be at least 250 words, excluding the question prompt and the references. Please cite your sources in APA format both in-text and in full reference citations at the end of the post.

Guided Response: Respond to at least two classmates initial posts by Day 7. Remember that you are required to respond to at least one peer who chose Option B. When responding to your peers in Option A, compare your arguments agreeing or disagreeing with the author. For instance, if you disagree with your peers reaction to the authors argument, explain why and discuss how your reaction differs. For instructions on how to respond to peers in Option B, read the guided response below. Please note that you will need to watch the required video to respond to peers in Option B. Posts must be at least 75 words in length and demonstrate critical thinking, engagement with course material, and represent a meaningful attempt to engage in discourse.
Option B: The Human Cost of Globalization. Read Chapter 8 in the textbook. Then, watch Sustainable Future: Globalization A Real-World View. Please answer each of the following questions:
·  What are the benefits of globalization?
·  What are the drawbacks of globalization?
·  Next, discuss a problem caused by globalization using the perspective of one of the following social science disciplines: history, anthropology, sociology, and political science. For instance, if you were researching the problem in one of these fields, what sort of research project would you propose to better understand the costs and benefits of globalization? Remember that each of these perspectives utilize different methods, so be sure to suggest a project that utilizes the tools of your chosen discipline.
Your initial post must be at least 250 words, excluding the question prompt and the references. Please cite your sources in APA format both in-text and in full reference citations at the end of the post.
Guided Response: Respond to at least two classmates initial posts by Day 7. Please remember that you are required to respond to at least one peer who chose Option A. In your responses to Option B, react to your peers and add to their arguments, rather than simply affirming them. Discuss real world examples that support their discussion on the benefits and drawbacks to globalization. You should also provide constructive feedback on their hypothetical research to better understand the costs and benefits of globalization. For instructions on how to respond to peers in Option A, read the guided response above. Posts must be at least 75 words in length and demonstrate critical thinking, engagement with course material, and represent a meaningful attempt to engage in discourse.
